I’d almost forgotten that today is also the day Joe Kubert passed away a year ago. Kubert and Wieringo were the first two artists whose work I could pick out of a crowd and I was immediately drawn to both. Years later I still consider them to be two of the biggest influences on the way I approach drawing. It only hit me just now that they passed away on the same day, years apart.
Anyway, here are my colors over a sketch of Sgt. Rock by Joe Kubert. I was fortunate enough to meet Joe when I was just starting out, back in ‘08. He was incredibly kind and that experience meant the world to me.
